1997 Ford Thunderbird Leak from the oil pan plug

Actually, the drain plug is a standard bolt. However, is the oil pan aluminum? If it is, make sure it isn't cracked. If it is, then the entire pan needs replaced. As far as just replacing the drain plug, there must be something other wrong with it or they would do it. It's just a matter of taking the old one out when changing the oil and replacing it with a new one when it is done draining.

If the pan is stripped (which is common with these) you can have it tapped with new threads and then just use a larger drain plug. Do your best to avoid metal shaving from getting into the pan when this is done.
