Antifreeze leak

I have a 1992 Ford Tempo with 62,000 miles. It is leaking antifreeze from somewhere and runs "hot" This started overnight. Actually I had the fuel pump replaced and the day I brought the car home I noticed the leak. (I think the mechanic might have actually created the leak because it was never there before) The mechanic then said it was not cost effective to fix but he wouldn't give me an estimate. He then tried to sell me a new car. He told me the leak was between the engine and the transmission and he would have to remove either one or the other to fix the problem and the cost of removing either to fix the leak would end up costing me more than the car is worth. I can't afford a new car so I am on the bus or walking with my kids one of which is only 3 weeks old. Clearly I know nothing about cars so I need to know if I am being hoodwinked.

Take it to a Ford dealer and have them diagnose it. Between engine and trans there's nothing "between" the two that could leak unless the block is porous. Could be a freeze plug that's corroded and leaking, they can be major work depending on their location, however I've never had one go bad, like I said, go to the dealer. 62k on a 92 is really low mileage, is this car in excellent condition otherwise?

The car is in excellent condition other than it started to leak after taking it to the mechanic. It had only one owner before me. A little old ladie that took excellent care of it and never drove more than 10 miles at a time. Thanks for the advice. I called the nearest dealer and I am going to take my car in for analysis.
