1999 Ford Taurus 147,000 miles.
Ok so 3 weeks ago had new tranny put in by my mechanic. Took her home and now my radio sound goes off when I put her in R. Goes right back on in any other gear. Now about 1000 miles later, when I get up to 50-60 mph, my rpms stay at about 4000-5000, then whenever she feels like it will go back down to normal opperating rpms. Next day after this problem started my check engine soon light came on and is staying on. And now today my door ajar light is on, will not go off and my interior light is staying on when doors are shut and car is off. Took out light bulb so the light is off. So my questions are, 1-is all of this realited? 2- how do I go about fixing my door ajar thing?? And 3- by taking the light bulb out from the dome, is the car still gonna draw power and kill my battery until I get it fixed??? Sorry so long. Thanks in advance -Jodi

Hi Jodi,
Put the bulb back in.
The problem with the door ajar is probably easily corrected by spraying a light lubricant into the LATCH of the doors, WD-40 would work. Start on the driver's door if that's what you use most. After spraying it good, open and close the door 10-20 times.

Not sure on the CEL, need to get the codes checked from the pcm to help.

The radio issue could be related to the mlps, otherwise known as the neutral safety switch..it sits on top of the transmission and cause a lot of weird issues, including radio problems, if it's not adjusted correctly or if it's failing.. if your engine is turning those rpms, obviously the trans is not correctly shifting, must be stuck in second gear, count the shifts,, you have a tach?? Should be 1, 2, 3, lockup, then od,, who did the trans work??? Take it back to the person, have them check the adjustment of the mlps, also if the trans is not shifting correctly when commanded to do so, most times, not always though, it'll set some type of incorrect gear code which can be retrieved with a scanner

The radio going out in reverse is due to a faulty manual lever position switch, which is located on the top of the transmission. This is a very common issue with this vehicle. I've included the replacement instructions.
