I sure hope that I can explain what my car has been doing. Sometimes when I'm driving down the road, my car will start to "Hiccup" like it's not getting enough fuel or if something wrong with my fuel, so I took my car to the shop to be fixed, and they told me I needed a tune up which was going to cost $475. They told me the reason it "Hiccuped" was because my spark plugs where misfiring and that would cause it to jump forward like it was doing. My car is a Ford Taurus and it has 40000 miles on it. When I called another shop to get a second opition, they said that My car shouldn't need a tune up because it hasn't been over 100000 miles. They mentioned that I could need a new fuel pump or filter. Would either of those make my car "Hiccup"? I probably haven't described very well what's it's doing, but any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Do you have check engine light on and if so that should make finding the reason a little easier as codes should point to the troubled area
I would for sure have it tuned if have not done so if that many miles

The check engine light hasn't come on at all. This issue doesn't happen all the time, just every now and then. I've talked to the local ford dealership and they told me that I shouldn't have to have a tune up for only 40000 miles. Do you have any other suggestions?
