This has happened on my Taurus as well. The latch is in the "engaged" or closed position, making it impossible to close. Whatever you do, do not try to force the door closed. This will damage the latch assembly and/or the catch pin located on the inside of the B pillar. In the past, I have inserted my index finger into the center of the latch and physically pushed the latch back to the open position (push to the right). You may have to jiggle the handle a bit while you are doing this. Be sure the door is in the un-locked position. Once the latch is freed up, spray some white lithium grease into the assembly. This will help prevent future occurances.
