I have a 97 Ford Taurus with an aftermarket remote starter installed. It has been working fine until yesterday. My factory door remote battery went dead so I replaced the battery. I successfully reprogramed the remote in the parking lot started the car and drove home, no problems. Later that day went to my car, unlocked the door with the remote, popped the truck, no problems. Get in the car put the key in and the the key turns over with no resistance. All electronics come on, and the remote that just worked is not working anymore. Take the key out all electronics stay on. I disconnect the battery thinking it may reset something but after I hook it back up the electronics are still on and the key is in my pocket. So I get online and come to the conclusion it may be my lock cylinder so I go buy a new one, install it, hook the battery back up and electronics still on and the key in the new cylinder has no resistance. So now the car is setting with the battery unhooked and I dont know what to do. Thanks for your help.

You have the link actuator broken (very common )
its the link that connect the ignition cylinder to the ignition switch
its a complicated job to be replaced
easiest way to go about it is by using a used steering column
just switch your old ignition to the new one so you ll have the same key and no change to the security system
