1996 Ford Taurus Intermittent dying

I have a 96 Ford Taurus SHO about a week ago it started to act up. I was just driving to the store and taking a trun and it just died. This as happened two or three times now and I don't have a clue where I should start looking. Plus every time I start the car up I can smell gas not very strong but enough to notice. There have been a couple times where I would start the car up drive somewhere go back to start it and it would turn on than die right away I would have to give it gas just to get it ideling nice so it wouldn't die. I dont want to jump into it not knowing what i'm looking at. Any ideas would be great Thanks!

Confirm the actual fuel pressure in the system and then test the idle air control motor/valve, throttle postion sensor/MAF/BMAP

Exactly. If fuel pressure is ok then I would lean towards a faulty idle air control valve. This is what the computer uses to set the idle for you and if its bad then the idle will be too low and can stall when decellerating or not start unless you use your foot on the gas to compensate for it not working.
