Last night my car would not unlock the auto gear shifter when pressed the brake and the button on the side will not go all the way in to unlock. Shifter is on the floor. I allowed the car to warm up but still nothing.

If the floor shifter does not move when the car is in run and the brake pedal is applied, check these items:
stoplight switch, shift-lock relay, shift-lock solenoid, circuit. Make sure your brake lights are working first, in most cases it's the brake light switch has failed, hopefully yours.
