1992 Ford Taurus 4 cyl Automatic 186000 miles

Last year I bought a 1992 Ford Taurus. Around November/December, I was on my way to work and, noticed a little smoke coming from under the hood. I only work two blocks from my house so, when I got home that night, I just completely stopped driving it. The smoke had no odor so I had it towed by my insurance company to an Auto Repair shop. They checked it out and found that there was a leak between my water pump and the gasket. So they told me I needed a new water pump. He said it cost $178.00 for the parts and $288.00 for labor. Do you feel this is a correct estimate of both parts and labor. I don't know much about cars but it just seems high to me.

178 is a little high for the price of a water pump, and the service is a bit high for it also, I would take it to another place and have tem take a look at it.

I priced a waterpump at the local Autozone, 25 to 45 dollars, your price is a rip. Replacing it does take some effort, however that labor price does seem high. Probably do have to figure a couple gallons of antifreeze in there also, shop around

I was figuring about 20 bucks for antifreeze.

50 bucks for the pump at the most.

And I can replace a pump in 1 hour, but if I drag my but it can take 2 hours.

So 2 hours of service at the max.

So 70 bucks parts and

200 at the most for labor.
