I have noticed that after a 30 -40 mile freeway travel when I come to a stop my oil pressure gauge starts jumping. Like 1/4 inch up and down. As soon as I hit the gas it returns to normal, never noticed it doing it with in town driving. This is a ford ranger 2 wheel drive 3 liter 6 cylinder 2003 32000 miles on it. I change the oil every 2000 miles.

Have your oil pressure sensor checked.

Chances are the sending unit is bad. Rent a mechanical pump to confirm there isn't a problem with the engine and it is a sensor.
