2003 ford ranger ext cab has 47k miles. I noticed a small oil leak about 3 months ago.I have been watching it and adding oil when I need to. Driving down hwy and the check engine light came on and oil gauge dropped.I drove it about 1 1/2 miles to get to a safe spot and about 1 mile it began ticking. It was ticking loudly when I got it stopped.I put oil in it and when I did it just poured out on the ground.I tried starting it and it did turn over fine but was loudly ticking. It didn't sound like it was knocking. Did I ruin my engine? It didn't overheat at all. To be honest, the oil hasnt been changed for about 2 years.I know. Bad bad bad

So the mechanic called and said that everything is running fine and that it had twice the amount of oil in it as it should. So they drained out all the oil and put new in. And there are no leaks. Huh. This can't be right

Two years and no oil change. I'm not sure what help you really need. You may have created a mess that may turn into needing an engine. The inside of that motor has got to be brutal. Maybe it's running now and with no leaks, but I doubt your gonna walk away for too long without having multiple problems. My guess is that when you added oil, it may have poured out the filter. The filters will rot out and leak.
