Roger, be ready to pull off the overwatch mission, You know I'm rusty with the cyber-rigs.I'd be a lot better off with a carb vehicle! Last night it looked as if my 1st response drifted off into cyber-space, so I wrote it again. If this feller will come back (with good or bad news. Something!) I will begin bounding forward and attack. Just stay close by with the commo, Mr. Pippy might show up with Mrs. Pippy on the OBJ, I could get counterattacked with stuff I ain't been schooled on yet! Please initiate cover fire if/ when you see a lull in my fire.---The Medic

I have a 99 Ford Ranger 4-wheel drive 3.0 engine, I was backing up a small grade and the rear wheel started spinning but got over the grade in 2-wheel drive it was just mostly wet grass but rear wheel did spin some, somehow it set a check engine light and the engine started missing/skipping like a regular skip, I disconnected the battery and that cleared the check engine light but the engine skipped until I rev the engine to around 3k rpm for a minute or so and the engine cleared up, I didnot have a scanner to check the engine code, I just wondered what would set a engine miss just because the rear wheel was spinning. Thanks Dan

Dan:
If the engine is running correctly now, chances are one of the spark plugs fouled for a few seconds with too much gas because of the situation. When you reved it, it cleaned itself out and returned to normal. If the truck hasn't had a tune up in some time, now may be the time to consider it. The plugs may be getting old.

Hi: I installed new Autozone plug wires and a set of Autolite Platinum spark plugs and it still sets a regular skip in the engine when the tires spin but it will clear up in a few seconds while reving the engine. Thanks. Dan

What is blown? But normally not, this would depend on what light is not working and if that is an indication to other problems.

Sorry just saw that it was the check light, can you get any scan info from the check connector, if not there may be an issue with power supply to the ECU.

While removing the instrument cluster I neglected to disconnect the battery. After reassembling everything I tried to start it but key turns on everything but doesn't turn the starter over. No selenoid click. Could I have shorted out a relay or fuse? I don't have access to a scan tool at this time. I did replace to check engine light bulb.

OK back to some basic tests, check for spark, injection pulse and fuel pressure and if you can get the fuel pressure reading at the rail.

Can't perform those tests. When key is turned on dash lights light up and all accessories work however when key is advanced to start position the starter does not engage and no solenoid noise.

With a test light check for power at the small solenoid wire at the starter with the key on crank and ensure that the battery connections and main starter cable is tight and clean.

If all that is ok, you will have to look at the ignition switch and if that is working you will have to do a continuity test down to the starter or get an IDS or a quality scanner and see what codes if any are set.
