Shakes or Wobbles problem
2003 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger Edge edition. My truck has been having a few problems lately, but the biggest one right now happened when the check engine light came on.

I ran the code and it is a System Too Lean on both banks. After the code came up my truck began loping really badly after it has warmed up, and has even stalled out a few times. I changed my fuel filter, which was very dirty, but my truck is still loping and stalling on me.

There is also a very loud hiss coming from the center of the top of the engine underneath the hood. I can't tell whether this is a vacuum line leaking or a bigger problem. Please let me know anything ASAP.

If you hear a hissing, that is the problem. It's a vacuum leak. And yes, that will cause a lean mixture. Check closely for damaged, broken, or disconnected hoses. Also, make sure the throttle body is tignt and check around the bottom of it for any evidence of leaks.

Let me know what you find.

I found a pencil size hole in my PCV valve hose and I'm going to replace it, but I highly doubt that's my problem. I'm going to wait until I replace that hose first, just to rule it out. I've heard of problems with a linkage underneath the upper intake, but I really don't feel like taking that off if there's a good chance of it being something easier.

I feel confident that the sound you hear is from the PCV hose. Let me know if that fixes the problem.
