We just took my girlfriends Ranger in to have the tranny looked at. It was shifting hard at around 45mph almost as though the overdrive was acting up. The shop basically completely rebuilt the tranny costing around $3000 and yet when we picked it up still same problem. I can drive it and cut the OD off just before the problem and it'll do fine til I drop back down to that speed and rpm range. Th OD light occassionlly flashes as well. I've read about an overdrive solenoid and was wondering more about it. The shop is now reverting the problem to be plugs, injector cleaning or fuel pump, however, that would make sense only if it was more consistent issue not just in the "passing gear". And why would I be bale to cut the OD off and not have the problem if it was one of those other things?

The overdive is actualy in the torque converter. So unless he changed converters it WILL have the same prob! The magnetic clutches are getting worn down and slamming together causing the rough shift and out. This only happens at certain speeds like when you come out of OD or go in OD. I hope this helps.

Ok here's what was done recondition and update valve body, overhaul tranny and flush lines. The parts were overhaul kit, torque converter, filter, solenoid block assembly, turbine speed sensor, intermediate band, intermediate servo piston, overdrive band, overdrive servo piston, center support, mfg valved body and update kit. So if they did replace the torque converter the problem should have been fixed right? And if anything when they test drove the truck they should have noticed the problem and realized it was in the transmission. Correct?

You're correct. The shop maybe trying to scam you. I would ask for a detailed rebuild layout and to see my old converter. If they cant they just rolled it in there and changed fluid and laughed at yah. I know this sounds cruel but its happening more and more often.
