2001 Ford Ranger oil gauge flickering and engine knocking

i was going out last night and noticed my oil gauge flickering and when i was able to pull over at a exit ramp my truck was making a knocking noise i think i screwed my engine cause i think there was to much oil in it by how much oil im not sure i tried to get it home but the truck stalled out i heard if the engine has too much oil it froths up and the pump can get the oil where its needed i want to know if my truck stalled out and was knocking have i done major damage to it or did i catch it in time before the damage was done

This can be low oil as well, have you actually checked the dipstick yet? If the engine is already knocking, it is damaged.

i looked at it when i got it pulled over looked like it was over the amount so your saying if it stalled on me and was knocking what kinda of damage was done to it and what should i be expecting in getting it repaired money wise

Damage is usually to lower end, the motor can actually liquid lock, this will wipe out bearing surfaces quick.. Every bearing surface, every connecting rod, needs to be inspected, would be cheaper to find a good used motor.
