2000 Ford Ranger fuel gauge

I spend most of my driving time with gas gauge pinned at top, however when i turn off engine and re-start the gauge returns to normal levels then slowly climbs again until pinned at top?

sounds like the fuel tank sending unit may be bad and need replacing. does the tank read accurately when first started?

it seems to start at the correct fuel level

sounds like the fuel level sending unit on the pump is probably bad.
