Tires and Wheels problem
1998 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 200k miles

My 1998 ford ranger won"t shift in to 4 wheel, it willgo into 2 low, the front hubs arent engaging, but will stay in 2 low until you can switch it enough to get it out. Could the vacuu, m lines be leaking, or could it be the servo switch. Is there another computer, or swiitch behind the drivers seat, jump seat on the back wall?

Chances are you have a vacuum leak. There is a vacuum hose that goes to the front axle (I think in 98 it was near the hub assembly. When you engage the 4wd, vacuum is sent to a servo that basically slides a splined sleeve on the axle which lock in the front axle. If you can get 4lo, the transfer case and actuator seem to be working. Check for vacuum leaks to the front axle.

If you have other questions, let me know. Have a great new year and thanks for using 2carpros. Com.
