the fuel gauge on my 97 ranger stopped working a while back about a year ago. then all of a sudden it started working again for about a month. then it stopped again. working on & off. if I switch the key on & off the fuel hand goes up but soon as I switch the key to crank the engine the fuel hands drops back down on E. could there be a short somewhere or maybe a glitch in the puter system?

Chances are the float in the tank is bad. Does it ever work correctly?
