Hi. My son has Ford Probe SE 1994 with 186,000 kms and a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine. The problem is the alternator needed to be replaced. We have followed all the steps for removal. After disconnecting the wiring as directed and then the front transverse crossmember etc, we now have a catch, the alternator will not fit through by the intermediate drive axle and the steering gear as stated in all the different manuals we have looked at. I can't remove it upwards or through the side. I am at a loss as to how they ever got the thing in there in the first place. Any help would be great.

Hey B.
Man, those can be a puzzle can't they! I'm trying to jar my memory here.I think if you ever so gently "pry" the motor towards the firewall (that is from underneath pry against the subframe and a safe place on the motor and pull back) you may have enough room to twist and turn it out, if not then you would have to pop the ball joint and remove the CV/intermediate axle (as an assembly) to get room, don't forget to torque the axle nut to spec when your done!

Regards,

Chris
