1986 mustang gt ho with 327,000 original miles. i just replaced the distributor module because my car would not start. now it starts, but not after it warms up. if i drive it for 10 minutes then turn off engine and try to restart, it just turns over. i need to let it cool down; usually at least an hour, then it will start. runs fine, and starts up right away. the new module is not a ford part because i was told it is not availble anymore. the new one is an ac delco. could this be a factor?

No hot start can be caused by fuel perculating in the cylinders causing you to loose compression. It can also be caused by worn compressioj rings. With that many miles I suspect you need a ring job.

Pne way to tell is to do a wet dry compression test. That will tell you cylinder/ring wear. If it goes way up on a wet test then you need rings.

It is difficult to analyze sitting here at my computer but that is my best professional guess. Good luck

Suggested Repair

Perform a wet and dry compression test. If compression rises sharply on the wet test, worn rings are likely and a ring job may be needed. Fuel percolating in the cylinders can also cause a no-hot-start condition.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a high-mileage 1986 Ford Mustang replaced the distributor module with an AC Delco unit. The car starts when cold but will not restart after warming up until it cools. The expert suggested fuel percolation or worn compression rings and recommended a wet and dry compression test.
