This is not an easy swap as the computer wont see the trans to shift it. You more or less are better off with a donor car so you can everything needed. If you stay with a current style Mustang you will need to flash the computer to see an automatic, you will need a tcm (transmission control module) and then there is possible driveline difference length then shifter change. Now if you go with an older AOD that doesn't require a computer flash and such then you just need to deal with a shifter and driveline and u-joint at the trans. Also most of these model Mustangs have different gears for auto verses manual so you may loose a lot of take off power. If you don't mind me asking why change it. My 98 has a 5 spd and that is what makes it more fun to drive (just my opinion however).

Am looking for my daughter who has trouble with a manual. I also have a 2000 Honda civic. Would the same apply to change that one over?

Honda's are usually more complex on doing this. Like I said though if you find an older AOD that is not electrically controlled then that would work but it is some work to do however.
