my friend was doing burnouts in my 96 ford mustang and now its tapping pretty loud when I gas and goes away when it idols. I checked the rods to see what they looked like but they looked normal so what do u think it could be

Hi there,

is the tapping coming from the rocker cover? If so I would be thinking a failed lifter, was the engine over revved?

um ya it sounds like its coming form there and yes it was prolly over revved

Hi there,

this is unknown untill you have a look, it may be a lifter, or a bent push rod even, bent rocker posts, over revving a stock engine is not the best thing to do, so you best lift the lid, pull the rocker gear and start with checking for a bent push rod, I'll give you a hint, roll them on a sheet of glass, this will show you if they are bent.
