Hello danrocks
It might be a linkage problem.
The problem must be related to a part or system unique to the first gear. This could also result from a linkage problem, such as a damaged shift mechanism, interference between the shift handle and the console or floor cutout, or restricted travel of the shift linkage and /or rails due to misalignment.
This problem might also be cause by damage to the selected gear or the synchronizer for that gear.
