Transmission problem
1971 Ford Mustang V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic? Miles

I have a 1971 Mustang with an FMX 3 speed automatic transmission, unsure of what year or how many miles the transmission has. The Problem I have is I have an Intermittent fluid transmission fluid leak that is coming from the back of my speedometer. Transmission Fluid is traveling up my speedometer cable and leaking out of my speedo. It's a new drive gear and anew speedo cable. I have no idea what the problem is or where it might be coming from but I do know it has to be starting somewhere close to my speedo drive gear.

Hi there, check that the seal in the speedo drive is ok, as I feel that oil is being wound up the cable past this seal, check this out first.

Hi! Thanks for the reply. Forgive my ignorance bt where exactly would this seal be located and what does it look like. Does it attach to the Speedo drive gear itself or is it inside the transmission. OR is it a part of the speedometer cable itself. Thanks again.

Hi there,

it should be an à †ring seal inside the speedo drive, the drive unit should slide out of the housing, I don't have a pic of this but when you remove the speedo housing it should be quite evident, have a look and let me know how you get on
