I have a 2005 Ford f250 Diesel (6.0) with manual trans. 4x4 crew cab dually. The oil pan is rotted out and local Ford dealers tell me it needs to have Trans removed and cab jacked up to replace, is this true or is there another way to replace the oil pan?

The book give 11.4 hrs to replace the oil pan on that vehicle. Thats what you should expect to pay at the dealer. And from the sounds of it, they arent giving u a run around. Ive never done one with a manual tranny, but I have replaced them with an automatic. The book time on those is 5.2. I never took the tranny out. Just lifted the engine up enough to get clearance. Looking at the difference in times between the 2 trannys, id say they arent BS'ing ya.

Yep thats how it goes, also takes several special service tools as well, not a fun job. Looking at a good 12 labor hours or more for this repair.

Heres a shot in the dark, but im assuming you plow with this truck, and the salt ate away your oil pan. I highly suggest that after u have a new pan put on, you buy some frame paint with the name "POR 15" and paint the new oil pan. Dont get the paint on you, it wont come off for weeks. Its highly resistant to corrosion, and alot of guys where im from run it on the frames and plows of their trucks.
