I have a 1999 ford F-150 with the 4.2 v-6 engine. When driving I have good pressure but when hit the brakes at a stop sign or red light the gauge drops to L. The oil gauge is normal when riding, in park, and in neutral but holding the brake loses pressure and red oil light comes on. Engine doesn't run hot and or tap, What can cause this?

Hi there,

We first need to get the oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge, get it read cold idle, hot idle and hot 1500 RPM, post the readings here.

Hi, I'd First Remove The Oil Pressure Switch, And Screw In a mechancial oil pressure gauge and see how low it gets. Let the truck idle for 20 minutes or more. If the gauge Falls Below 8 psi. Then It's an Internal engine problem.4 to 5 Psi will Turn the light on. If it stays above ten psi or more, then i'd replace the oil switch. Also using thicker oil will increase the pressure a bit.

Hope This Helps You,
Good Luck
