If it is reving that high on its own, either you have a bad idle air control valve or throttle position sensor. Has the check engine light come on?

I think you have a bad idle air control valve (IAC). Since the check engine light is on, take it to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for trouble codes. Most will do it for free, and that way we'll know if I am correct.

Let me know what you find.
