My truck; F-150XLT, has been having intermittent overheating problems. Have replaced thermostat, but will run hot sometimes. Tried to duplicate the problem by driving but most of the time operates in normal range. Then, it will run hot again. Could this be a faulty sensor of something else?

Is it actually overheating or just basing yourself on the gauge? Try bleeding the cooling system out and see what happens and test the thermostat

I am basing the overheating problem just based on the tempature gauge on the dash.

Trying to track down the causes for my overheating problem. I've been working on this problem for approx 4 days now. Once consistant problems seems to be with air pockets in my cooling system. What could be causes leading to getting air in my cooling system? Last year, I had a heater core replaced in my F-150XLF. The mechanic indicated the other day that when doing the work he did not install a reducing hose, since it was an additional cost item. Could this be a contributing factor to air in my cooling line? The problem is that air can block the flow of coolant to the engine, thus causing a overheating situation. Is there a way that I can bleed the system to remove the air in the line?
