I have a 1997 ford f-150 v8 4.8L.

It has a computer issue where the check engine light comes on and it says my oil is low and my engine is overheating but when I check both they are fine.

I am also having the most annoying issue ever where I will driving for an hour or so and its fine and then all of a sudden as I am idle at a stoplight the truck will shudder a bit and then will not accelerate quickly and once it gets going will barely go over 40 mph.

I will have to pull over and restart the truck for it to work properly and it seems it only happens when I am idle or stopped. I have already put fuel injector and changed the fuel filter and am trying to figure out what the next step is to solve this problem cheaply before I take it to the ford dealership to have them rape me on repair costs.

First thign is get it scanned for codes isnce the check engine light is on, it can tell you what is wrong with it before replacing random things and going through lots of trouble shooting.

Autozones will scan for free, and other auto places will rent out a scanner or scan for free.

Well the thing is the check engine codes before when it was having the light come on were bogus codes and they were fixed and the light still came back on so I am just wondering if anyone has been familiar with this problem before and can help me diagnose it without having the codes looked at

Get the codes and post them back, there are lots of codes out there so its hard to be "familiar" just by your problem.

Bogus codes/ what were they?
