I started my car last night and dorve about 1 mile. After that the battery light came on, the head lights went out, the radio went of, the dash lights went really dime, the abs light came on as well. I think I wis the alternator. Could this be the case or is it the battery. The battery is bout 4 years old. Would the truck have some type of swith that would shut those things down and continue to run. The truck started without hesitation.

Replace BOTH the battery and alternator, a weak battery can kill an alternator on Fords. Yours is in obvious distress already.

I was told that the alternator can be rebuilt and thta all that normally goes wrong is the bushing go bad. Would you suggest having someone rebuild the alternator.
