there is an electrical connection to unplug as well as few bolts probably. why do you want to removei tin the first place. you'll have to scan for codes first to see if it is bad or a sensor. we don't show a pic of this so it's hard to describe not seeing something that old.

I own a 1989 F150 Lariet and have been experiencing problems with the electrical system. My truck runs fine one moment then completely goes haywire the next. To me it seems like i have an electrical short somewhere and have been feverishly been tracing wires looking for bad connections, pinched wires, or burned up wires. My eec relay "chatters", this relay controls my external fuel pump, and whenever the the problem occurs while driving I have to pull over as because the vehicle is completely undrivable. I replaced the relay and the problem continued. My next step I did was to run a bypass toggle to manually control the pump. But the problem continues. I have tried taking it to the shop but have been told that as long as it is not currently happening there is not much they could do. These problem happens at random intervals. My last episode lasted three months and i was unable to drive it at all so I parked my truck. When I ran the bypass the truck ran fine but alas the problem returns. The check engine light flickers and the truck dies. This problem burned up my last fuel pump from being turned on and off so much so fast along with the eec relay. I feel like the pcm is going bad or that something is sending the pcm bad signals which in turn cause the pcm to output weird signals. HELP ME PLEASE!!!! What can i do?

THe EEC also controls the ingnition system. When this happens, do you hear the pump going on and off or could it be something like a crank sensor that is bad?

The PCM is located behind the drivers side kick panel just ahead of the door. Remove the door panel and the PCM will be a silver box approx 1.5" x 8" x 5" just below the level of the underside of the dash. The PCM fits into a slot in the firewall. If you open the hood and look down behind the driver's side wheel well, you will see the wiring harness that is bolted into the PCM through the slot in the firewall. Hope this helps.

Hello and thanks for donating

Your vehicle's EEC power relay is under the center of the instrument panel, near the ECA module. The ECA module itself is under the center of the instrument panel as well.

I was told my problem was probably the computer and I took out the control module thinking it was the computer but have since replace it. Now I am trying to find out where and how to take out the computer to see if it is indeed the problem as to why my truck will not start. It appeaed originally that it might have been the fuel pump but according to the diagnostic it said it might be the 02 sensors we replaced two of the sensors but it did not cure the problem. I am being told my another expert that it is probably the computer and I have not been able to locate it. Can you help?

my truck is in a start/no run situation. I Rebuilt the 4.2L and have put 2000 good miles on it when it just bucked, coughed and stalled out last week. Checked the mechanics of the motor...fine(timing, compression, all good). Fuel delivers a static 35psi to the rail and is being injected into the cylinders and there is spark. No code has been thrown out by the PCM. All sensors I have checked(TPS, IAC, IWT) are good. I am having issues finding out what voltage I should be seeing going into and out of the Cam Angle sensor and the Crank position sensor. the Cam angle is new from the rebuild. I am at my last resource here before i say its the PCM that quit. So some voltage knowledge and where to go from there would help me greatly. thanks

Hi fantum48,

Thank you for the donation.

You mentioned start/no run condition, does that mean it can be started ?

The voltage of the CMP is less than 5 volt and with engine running, it should not vary more than 0.1 volt.

Crankshaft position sensor is Hall effect so it is 12 volts.

it cranks over only, sputters and coughs occasionally, but does not run. I have replaced the CMP and CKP. I am at a loss with it, can't figure it out and am very hesitant to get a new PCM. No codes to retrieve. Help!

Since it is sparking with compression and fuel getting to the cylinders, it should be running.

When sparks are available, it is not likely to be a problem with the PCM, cam or crank position sensor .

Are the sparks bright blue or orange? If it is dull orange, the sparks could be weak resulting in the non starting. Were the spark plugs checked? Are they clean or sooty?

I have replaced the plugs...then old ones did have carbon build up on them, but i figure that's part of the break in period for a rebuilt engine. The Coil pack primary side was around 700ohm, and the secondary side was around 13k ohms, which i think is just outside of spec. I have not actually looked at at the spark myself, so I dont know if its blue or orange.

in addition...the cam angle sensor(CMP) is seeing .6V under battery voltage, and the Crank Position Sensor(CKP) I cannot get a voltage reading either front or backprobing. These readings were taken key on engine off because of the no start condition
