Engine Mechanical problem
1992 Ford F150 V8 Four Wheel Drive 100000 miles

Starts up, runs good, but when turned off it won't start back up for 3 to 4 hrs. Later. I have put a new gas filter on and, drained all old gas and replaced with new. Put in fuel injection cleaner. Gas filter builds up alot of pressure. Vaccum hose is dry. Has dual gas tanks. No matter which tank is used it will do the same.

WHen you shut it off, is the engine getting spark and can you hear the fuel pump engage for a second or two when you first turn the key on?

If you are getting both, then either there is a timing issue, compression issue. I want you to try something for me. See if the engine starts for a few seconds with starting fluid.

Let me know because if it starts with starting fluid, then we have a fuel related issue. If it doesn't, then it's ignition related.

If it isn't at least backfiring with starting fluid, I need you to recheck the spark. Is it a hot blue snapping spark? If it is, then we have to check compression. Check the spark and here are the directions for checking compression.

If you have good spark, fuel pressure, and compression, it has to run unless the timing is bad.

Let me know what you find.
