SUV starts after being shaken

1996 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. 170,000 miles. V6 engine. When the truck starts, it drives well, but when the engine is shut off, it may not start again. The problem isn't reproducable at the mechanic because it starts after being bounced around during a tow. I can sometimes start it by shaking the truck myself, but that doesn't always work. Not a battery problem because lights and windows work. Starter has been replaced twice. Any ideas?

Thank you.

Hi
the symptoms you describe are def fuel related, could be a few things, a fuel restriction such as a clogged filter or a failing fuel pump or a fuel pump connector that is loose, I would check the basic items first and if you can get a fuel pressure gauge and check the [pressure and let me know

When you say it does not start. You mean it does not crank. Right?
If you have replaced starter twice. We hope we can rule that out.
Look for loose connections mainly at:
Battery cables. Battery post to cable end. And cable end to wire that goes to it.
Postive cable screwed to starter solenoid.
Small connector which is switch wire on solenoid terminal.

Any on these can cause a no crank.
Have someone hold the key in start position ans wiggle test them all.
Also.A bad or loose connector at the idnition switch can cause this too but not nearly as common.
Also relays in fuse and relay center on driver side under hood can also cause but once again, not as common.
