2002 Ford Explorer strange noise in inside back driver side

strange noise in the inside back driver side panel that sounds like a pumping noise/clunking noise in the back panel by the back door. It happens when the car is running and is in park and running but stops when the car is off.

Does it make this noise when the vehicle is moving? May need to remove therear panel to see what is behind it.Some vehicles have the rear a/c-heater units back there and when a mode door ( hot-cold door) fails it will continously bang until it is shut off
