1998 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

changed intake manifold gasket. Put it back together now the moter back fires out of the driver side mufler. Could it be from gasket not seld right or is it possible the moter jumped timing

Was this happening prior to replacing the gasket? If not, then I would say no to the timing chain. As far as a backfire from the "right" side exhause, do you have dual exhause on it? If so, have you changed anything other than that when it was done?

To answer your question, yes a vacuum leak can cause a backfire. Make sure you have replaced all of the vacuum hoses properly. Also, has the check engine light come on? Does the vehicle idle good and only backfire when you accellerate.
