1997 Ford Explorer Heater Smell

1997 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

When my heat is on it smells like gas or oil coming out the vents. I know there isnt a cabin filter for my truck is there anyone who knows how to fix this and whats the cause?

Could it be a coolant smell?

not sure what coolant would smell like..but i have a bottle so ill go take a sniff. If it was the coolant is it leaking or is the engine burning coolant? I was planning on flushing the radiator when I had time..but from what I can see in the engine bay the hoses are all good.
