1991 Ford Explorer Burnt smell

The heater core on this year is actually under the dash. Here is a picture:

Under the hood is the motor and the plenum assembly.

If you remove it, you may have access to something, but from the inside, I can't see how things would get there. Let me know what you find. Joe
