My 97 explorer had a motor swap, and now has a 96 explorer motor in it. It is a 4.0 6 cylinder. Its not getting the fuel pressure it needs to start properly, I have to crank it for a few minutes and then it will start. Ive been told its the fuel pressure regulator, could that be it or could it be something else. Once it starts it runs great no spitting, sputtering, and it has never died on me. Please help me.

Hi,

It could be related to the fuel pressure regulator, but I think that would not change once it starts. Based on your description, it sounds like you have fuel pressure drop-off. Basically, fuel pressure is lost when the engine is off and it takes a few tries to rebuild the pressure needed for it to run.

I would recommend starting by testing the fuel pressure and regulator. Here is a link that explains how that is done:

https://www.2carprIfos.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

If you look at the attachments below, they provide the directions for testing specific to your vehicle. The manufacturer's fuel pressure specifications are included in the directions.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
