I took my car to the shop because the fuel vent hose snapped. They want me to buy the whole assembly that runs from the tank to the gas door in order to replace the fuel vent hose which is $200. On top of that they also want to charge me $300 for labor. Can't that hose be simply replaced instead of buying the whole entire thing?

It really matters where it broke. THe filler tube and the vent tube are joined as one unit. The steel tube runs down and into a rubber fuel line. If the rubber hose is what broke, it can be repaired. However, if the steel section has rusted, it will need replaced.

Honestly, they are not too hard to replace. With the cash for clunker program, you may be able to find a good one at a salvage yard for much less.

I have the same vehicle. THe vent tube (steel section) broke about 3 inches from the rubber line. I cut off the bad part, cleaned everything up, painted it to help prevent future rust, and got a longer rubber hose to replace it.

Let me know if you have other questions.
