There is a park lock soleniod designed to keep the car in park until you depress the brake pedal. The soleniod is actuated by the brake light switch. So, this may sound like a stupid questions, but are the brake lights working on the car? If not, chances are the brake light switch is bad or out of adjustment.

Let me know what you find.
