Hi,

I have a 1998 Ford Escort SE with 133,000 miles. The engine overheats when I turn on the air conditioning or I drive with more than 60mph.

My mechanic quoted me at $1,100 to repair the head gasket, replace the radiator caps, and flush the engine.

Is that a reasonable price? Do I have any other options. I just graduated college and started a job and cannot afford in any way this price.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Alina

Sir or Madam

If it was me I'll try removing the thermostat and take it for a test drive, cheap fix also change the radiator cap and flush it for a start.

Did the mechanic performed a block and pressure test on it.
