Brake Light Switch

I have a 97 Ford Escort automatic and cruise with 72K that has a problem with the brake light staying on. It appears to be the brake light switch. When checking there are 2 switches that could be the cause of the problem. How do I know which switch is the culprit?

Ususlly it's the lower one, try pushing it in toward the firewall, then lifting up on the brake pedal, this may readjust the position of it.
