2001 Ford Escort radio skips and service engine soon light

Hello, I just got a 2001 ford escort and it has 76000 miles on it, runs great but reves alittle when im ideling. Sence I got it the radio skipped every once in a while when I truned the car to hit a bump. But today it skipped really bad and the cheak service engine soon came on. Id reallly like to know what this means or get an idea seeing how I just bought the car.

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.

I got the code, it p 171 and shutt off the light then put some cleaning stuff in my tank and it seemed to help. Any idea what that code means?
