1998 Ford Escort Overheating

I have a 1998 Ford Escort with a 1.6 Zetec engine, its recently been overheating on very short journeys going into the red very quickly, the fan never cuts. I replaced the temp sender on the engine but have tried nothing else, any ideas?

Hi there, power the fan up independently just to make sure that they work, check thermostat, have the radiator cleaned and checked for blockages, check pressure cap, start here.
