1997 Ford Escort slow and loud acceleration in 2nd gear

As of recently, accelerating through 2nd gear has become labored and noisy. Between about 5 and 25 mph it is accelearates slowly and sounds like a motorcyle, but works fine at higher gears/speed. No smells or history of accidents. Help with troubleshooting?

Hey I have been experiencing the same symptoms as you. My escort is a 97 Auto as well. Hopefully someone might answer that can help us narrow it down. I think it may be worn out engine mounts on mine.
