Under $20.00 for toggle and push start versus $110.00 for a new lock cylinder (no pick and pull or junk yard have a 91-96 escort in my area), is a huge deal to me at this point ive dropped $1500.00 on this car in the last 2 wks and the last thing I need to do is pull my steering wheel & multi-switches and then beat on my steering column to release the shear bolts that hold the lock cylinder to the steering column and hope I dont mess anything up as I do it. Thanks for the help I love this site

I can take my key out of the ignition while the car is running. The key also does not turn all the way back. When I take the key out and open the door when the car is off the car beeps as if the key is left in or the lights are on. Is this the ignition switch and can it be repaired easily at home? Thank you.

I lost my only key and Ford cant cut one by vin since its a 1988. I bought a new switch, removed the sterring wheel, and found some torx bolts. A 25 wont go in and a 20 wiggles and wont break it. Do you know what it is? I went to Fastenal and my buddy there said that there was nothing between 20 and 25. I got an ez out kit. Is that a good idea?

Are you certain it's a torx head? There is nothing between T20 and T25, so if neither of those fit than it must not be a torx bolt.

Electrical problem
1998 Ford Escort 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 123K miles

The key turns, but does not spring back or engage the engine. Stopped suddenly. Put car in neutral with brake engaged and clutch in. No response. Idiot lights came on when this happened and would not turn off when key was turned back to off position.
