I have a 1995 Ford Escort that was sitting for about 4-5 months with only an occasional start to make sure it didn't freeze up. It had some front end issues and today I decided to get it going again and take it to the shop. Well I started it up no problem, tested the AC(which worked great before), and then I noticed a burning smell and smoke coming from the front of the car. I shut the engine off and checked to see what happened and I found out the smoke was coming from under the car. I found on what I think is the AC compressor there were three rubber spacers or pads around where the pulley was that were melting, smoking, and falling off. I also noticed that when I started the car again and watched this same area there were some sparks coming out. This was all while the AC was in the on position at the highest setting. When it is off there is no problem. Could it be that something froze up when the car was setting?Any help would be appreciated.
