1994 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

When Im driving my car will get the the m on the temp gauge and the starter will engage and won't stop running till I turn the car off then I have to let it cool down and I can drive it again but now it's doing it when I start the car it just keeps spinning when it's on but I when I put it in nutral and start it it's fine I am so clueless about what could be wrong

That is an odd one. Has it ever happened when it is cold? If you play with the key can you make it stop?

Ya it just started doing it when I go to start it. The car turns on runs for a second then the starter will engage. But I put it in neutral and go to start it and it's fine. There is a weird noise from the hood tho when I do that. And when I go to the on position the engine turns over before I even start it.

I honestly think you have a bad ignition switch. That is where I would start.
