1989 Ford Escort slipping clutch?

when shifting into 2nd or 3rd, i depress the clutch pedel, shift, release the pedel,it shifts then sorta slips as i ecelerate then catches up with itself and works fine til i shift into 3rd same thing doesn't do it in 4th or 5th gear HELP! Thanks Terrie

yes sounds like your clutch is on its way to death.but it can also be a oil leak in the main seal on motor and leaks into disk and makes it slipp a litttle.check for oil leaks.but even if its just an oil leak best thing to do is install a new cluch.for me it sounds like a clutch tho.
