1998 ford escort r reg 1.8ghia

hi there

hoping you can help me here. Our escort seems to over rev after changing gear. There is no extra power just the noise. Been told it could possibly be the clutch slipping and we were wondering if its possible to fix it at home.

hope you can help

If the engine RPM is not matching correctly to the current gear you are in, then the clutch would be slipping. Try taking off in 3rd gear and see if the engine stalls before the clutch pedal is released all the way. If not, the clutch will have to be replaced immediately and possibly the flywheel also.

Any thing can be done at home!!!! 'cept stuff you do when you are out!

Question is, Do you have the skills to do it Safely and Correctly as not to Muff up yourself or your vehicle...Don't want to make things worse!

It really does not sound line much.........one word..."Clutch"

However, it is a lot more involved than a oil change (Do you have that done, or do it yourself?????) If done by others, why? A lot of trouble? Clutch is really fun, especially for a 1st timer!!!

Here's a similar situation as to what you may be getting into: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy9pqy1L7hA&feature=related

Whachu Think?
